I found this editorial to be quite exceptional, because while I might not agree with everything being said in this article, the writer chose to stick with one topic and provide example after example until he felt his point was proven. In my opinion, Obama's State of the Union address was, if nothing else, a step in the right direction. However, I do agree with the writer of this piece that it is time for Obama to start taking responsibility for his own actions, stop attacking the Bush administration, and realize that every time he talks about the corruption of Washington, he is talking about himself. The majority of what President Obama said in last night's speech was an insult whether to the past administration, the military, the Supreme Court, or even, at times, his own party. Obama had no real solution to anything. He just pushed around a lot of "fluff" and hoped the American people bought it. He said he would create more jobs, but only supplied a round about possibility of how that might happen. He said he wanted cleaner energy, more tax cuts, and tax credits for college education. He didn't offer any plan on how to accomplish these things. This editorial uses examples, short sentences, and a consistent tone to get the point across. Something that truly cannot be said about the State of the Union address last night.
The only way to make this editorial stronger would be to give more credit to the Obama administration for being willing to initiate and institute change. While it might not be the right amount or kind of change, the Obama administration has been more willing to change and see what works and what does not work than most administrations of late. However, if the writer had tried to be more objective in this sense, the editorial would have lost some of its weight, in my opinion.
